<span style="font-size: large;">Long time no write. But who cares... on to the refinish.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">I wanted a dresser to refinish to put in my entryway. I was able to get this one from a local lady selling it on a Facebook yardsale site for just $40. It is all wood, except the back is cardboard.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-am2C-HLbbG4/Vfd-HQO-MOI/AAAAAAAAMew/6DS4mO_tNHk/s1600/10565152_10203650045079186_123068478506667552_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-am2C-HLbbG4/Vfd-HQO-MOI/AAAAAAAAMew/6DS4mO_tNHk/s320/10565152_10203650045079186_123068478506667552_n.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Before I had started in on this project, the lady who sold it to me offered to give me the matching nightstand for free! She even delivered it to my door one afternoon. I ended up putting the entry way on hold while I worked on transforming my daughters nursery to a big girl room and the Night Stand was a great addition. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bxQfkNgmrNE/Vfd-8GwSrTI/AAAAAAAAMe8/9mnbLkEiT90/s1600/20150803_165156.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bxQfkNgmrNE/Vfd-8GwSrTI/AAAAAAAAMe8/9mnbLkEiT90/s320/20150803_165156.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2ULmvUGuX9k/Vfd--VHpcGI/AAAAAAAAMfE/LrbuvK-bsX8/s1600/20150803_165212.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2ULmvUGuX9k/Vfd--VHpcGI/AAAAAAAAMfE/LrbuvK-bsX8/s320/20150803_165212.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Right off, I didn't love the accent pieces on the face of the piece, so I took some of the wood pieces off the front. I pried it off with a small crow bar like tool and added some trim with my nail gun. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XRGar1ZUmCA/Vfd_W_IOwMI/AAAAAAAAMgA/4xpf4t92mr8/s1600/20150803_212334.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XRGar1ZUmCA/Vfd_W_IOwMI/AAAAAAAAMgA/4xpf4t92mr8/s320/20150803_212334.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-size: large;">Time to strip. I could have just sanded the heck out of it, but I like to strip off the old paint or stain. I brushed on Citristrip and laid plastic film directly on the piece. You can wait 30 minutes or up to 24 hours to penetrate.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aJUwamFDafI/Vfd_K8ARGhI/AAAAAAAAMfg/4ZrEMDlCnVU/s1600/20150803_211444.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-aJUwamFDafI/Vfd_K8ARGhI/AAAAAAAAMfg/4ZrEMDlCnVU/s320/20150803_211444.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Next, scrape the yuck off. Stain strips off more like a gel where as paint tends to come of in sheets. It was a gunky mess. I would scrape off a section and wipe it on a paper towel. I used a little mineral spirits to clean up my tools and wipe down the piece a little.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yDRbS-RNrQ/Vfd_cI8SRfI/AAAAAAAAMgQ/wp3kVC-wx7Q/s1600/20150803_213844.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7yDRbS-RNrQ/Vfd_cI8SRfI/AAAAAAAAMgQ/wp3kVC-wx7Q/s320/20150803_213844.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then I took the piece outside to sand it with my sander. This takes off a lot of the color and you can easily get carried away with the lower grit and take off details of the piece. I used foam sanding blocks to get around the cracks. Starting with 120 grit and working up to 320 for a super smooth finish.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iar_iLCJe_Q/Vfd_cgZFSyI/AAAAAAAAMgY/78-_4seK7kY/s1600/20150825_122301.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iar_iLCJe_Q/Vfd_cgZFSyI/AAAAAAAAMgY/78-_4seK7kY/s320/20150825_122301.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I wiped it down with a damp rag to get off any dust and let is dry well. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Then applied primer. I prefer the oil based Zinnser 123 primer. I hear the spray primer works well, too. I just haven't tried it before. I painted the main body of the piece a white color that was a color match to IKEA's Malm dresser. That is what we have in her room. I painted the drawer fronts a blue that matched her comforter. I did this same color palette on her desk, so I made it coordinate.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--9F3wpGrOy8/VfeDcWS5M1I/AAAAAAAAMgg/RRh_cgzipP0/s1600/20150914_191309.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--9F3wpGrOy8/VfeDcWS5M1I/AAAAAAAAMgg/RRh_cgzipP0/s320/20150914_191309.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1PXnMWo5vD4/VfeDcfudl5I/AAAAAAAAMgk/go7-gxfZKNI/s1600/20150914_191454.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-size: large;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-1PXnMWo5vD4/VfeDcfudl5I/AAAAAAAAMgk/go7-gxfZKNI/s320/20150914_191454.jpg" width="180" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">I also ended up adding legs to the piece. I think the look of the raised piece makes it more feminine and elegant. You can see where I changed some of the trim pieces. I finished the top with Polycrylic to protect it from wear and tear. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Now on to the big dresser...</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This means you probably had a substantial list of supplies you needed to provide to the school for your child's education. Now, these supply lists are a thorn in the sides of many parents. After Christmas, back to school season is the biggest retail season of the year. It is also the BEST time to score great deals on all those back to school supplies. Seriously, some stores are literally GIVING away supplies. Free paper, pens, highlighters, glue, scissors, etc. Just take a look below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wm9fCOpTReQ/UioBHVURgkI/AAAAAAAABjk/_hCD7wfOoaM/s1600/IMG_3281.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wm9fCOpTReQ/UioBHVURgkI/AAAAAAAABjk/_hCD7wfOoaM/s320/IMG_3281.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
All of this was FREE or a penny. This picture does not even include the stuff I already sent to school with my 3 kids, these are the leftovers! I bet you think I must have spent hours pouring over sale ads and coupons blogs to get the deals and then running all over town, wasting gas to save a few pennies on a notebook. Nope, quite the opposite. I would simply look at one ad match up site a week. That takes maybe 10 minutes and if I was near the store on a regular errand run, I would stop in. Staples is the store that is only a few miles away and had the best deals. I think I went there 3 times total, I didn't even get all the deals. They gave away 3-4 reams of paper every week for 6 weeks straight! I also did some deals at Rite Aid, but only if I was shopping there anyway for the usual stuff like diapers and shampoo. <br />
<br />
This makes back to school shopping almost fun for me because next year, I will start my back to school shopping in my basement. That usually knocks off at least half my list. Then I'll see what deals pop up and head to my local discount store for those last few items. I probably spent $15 at most on all the supplies this year. I am not just saving money, but saving myself the stress of finding all the correct specific supplies and possibly going all around town anyway to find a specific color folder that is on every supply list and gone from every local store.Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14636512397235392999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6644377954427955883.post-26488703472794412582013-06-13T08:24:00.000-07:002013-06-13T08:24:30.726-07:00Kale Chips... meh.Not horrible, but not great. I figured I would try to make some kale chips since it is all over pinterest and super healthy. I did a basic recipe. Pull the leaves off the spine and wash in a salad spinner. Then toss with a little olive oil and salt. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Definitely easy peasey. They looked like the other pictures.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tXY-8LnpGwU/UbniYbKfKnI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/FHi9rlmnfXw/s1600/IMG_2490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tXY-8LnpGwU/UbniYbKfKnI/AAAAAAAAAUQ/FHi9rlmnfXw/s320/IMG_2490.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I tried one, and at first it was yummy. The ruffle edges made a very light and airy texture. You immediately taste the salt and it is pretty good. Then the kale flavor starts to come through as you chew... not horrible but not what I would call good. Kale is kinda bitter and you definitely get that with the chips. After eating a few, I kinda had this weird aftertaste, too. So, I'm not loving this one. But I tried. Alex is my kids who asks for salad with every meal and he didn't like it either. Andrew's words were "that's disgusting."</div>

You are basically printing money to buy groceries. The best part is, you don't even have to look through all the hundreds of coupons on the printing sites because the bloggers have already matched the coupons to the sale ad with a link to the exact coupon. Really, could it get any easier? Coupons often expire at the end of the month and a new batch of printable coupons are available at the beginning of the month.<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-twxX-cNN-k8/UaoHBrD4xfI/AAAAAAAAAUA/zughgI2RNHY/s1600/IMG_2414.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-twxX-cNN-k8/UaoHBrD4xfI/AAAAAAAAAUA/zughgI2RNHY/s320/IMG_2414.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Worried about the cost of paper and ink? I get paper free with coupons and rebates. I get my ink refilled at Walgreens for less than $12, which is much cheaper than buying a new cartridge. Plus, you only need to print coupons in black and white. I use the economy/ink saver setting on my printer and the coupons scan just fine. (I used everyday color printing on the above picture.)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Maybe you don't eat Chex Mix, Frozen pizza or canned veggies? Well, there are tons of health and beauty coupons, too. Everyone needs toothpaste, soap and razors. </div>

I have realized that most people want me to say "Oh, they just hand out free stuff on Tuesday morning" because as soon as I even mention clipping a coupon I get a bunch of excuses. "I don't have time" is the biggest load of BS I hear. I know ladies with 5 kids and a job that find time to coupon. If you have time to Facebook and Pinterest, you have time to coupon. It is just a matter of if it is important to you to save money. But seriously, I do not care if you coupon or not. In fact, it is better for me if you don't coupon at my preferred stores. As with anything, it takes time up front to learn and then it is just a lifestyle, like eating healthy and exercise. You get out what you put in. In the end, it saves me time because I usually plan my meals in advance and I have a stockpile from which to make a meal at the last minute. In the past, I would have just had my husband get fast food on his way home from work.<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPdFuoscIIw/UWdqATq_OYI/AAAAAAAAATE/O7yN2qke4l8/s1600/IMG_20130411_215259.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IPdFuoscIIw/UWdqATq_OYI/AAAAAAAAATE/O7yN2qke4l8/s320/IMG_20130411_215259.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
So, just a quick freebie that is SO simple... and you can get this deal right now! FREE Pampers baby wipes. Don't have a baby? Well, take it from this mom of 3... those things are great for wiping up anything...not just baby bottoms. Plus, they also make a very appreciated baby shower gift that will not ever be returned. How can you get this deal? Well, at Kroger the coupon policy allows for double coupons that are .50 or less. So a .50 coupon really takes 1.00 off your total. Pampers baby wipes are part of a Kroger Mega sale when you buy 5 participating items, you get $5 off your total. Baby wipes are 1.99 in the mega sale. There are printable .50 coupons for the wipes. Buy 5 wipes, get $5 off your total for the mega sale, use 5 coupons and get another $5 off your total. That is free folks.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Where can you get 5 coupons? You can print the coupon twice per computer. I know a lot of people have more than one computer in their home. Still can't scrounge up 5 coupons? Ok, so get some of the other participating items. Chances are you need some of the items, and they will have coupons, too! If that seems like a lot of work, then couponing isn't for you. It doesn't get much simpler than printing a little piece of paper and bringing it to a grocery store where you are probably going to stop by for food anyway.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This week I also loaded up on Sheba canned cat food, which Publix actually paid me .85 to take 6 cans out of the store. Seriously, the cashier handed me the bag of cat food, the receipt and .85. There is something free every week!</div>
Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14636512397235392999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6644377954427955883.post-22576429675236768022013-03-02T18:59:00.001-08:002013-03-02T18:59:38.552-08:00Max and Ruby..... duh, duh, duh, duh, da dud, da duh, Ruby and Max.Happy Birthday to Baby Girl! Well, Sassy is turning two but she is still the baby of the family. She doesn't get too excited about TV, but she does love Max and Ruby. When it comes on she points and yells "RUDYYYY," yes with a D. At this stage the boys like Elmo so this is a new one for me. For her birthday, what else could I do but a Max and Ruby theme? Unfortunately, this is not as popular as some characters so I had to go online to order a few party supplies. Since Ruby wears a yellow a-line dress with orange and green crosses on it, I thought maybe I'll make Sassy a matching dress. I started with a McCalls pattern 6303 that I had picked up on sale for $1 one week at Hobby Lobby. I bought the pattern with no exact intention but I was glad to have it for this. It is easy to make a pattern for an a-line dress, but I just find a professional pattern makes it easier for me. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0EJoYq3GUE/UTK3P17gv_I/AAAAAAAAARo/8jZFPHjW3Og/s1600/IMG_1279.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0EJoYq3GUE/UTK3P17gv_I/AAAAAAAAARo/8jZFPHjW3Og/s320/IMG_1279.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
See... a-line dress just two easy pieces. I cut 2 of the pattern pieces and made the dress reversible. I usually do this because I hate sewing small seams. Plus the fabric I choose was light yellow and it needed a lining.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bS_Yp3npD44/UTK3Qmcz63I/AAAAAAAAARw/WuBPj2asvos/s1600/IMG_1288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bS_Yp3npD44/UTK3Qmcz63I/AAAAAAAAARw/WuBPj2asvos/s320/IMG_1288.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I added some ric rac detail to the "reverse" side or lining side.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Pin and sew the top and bottoms to their "mate," leaving the sides open.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Turn one right side out and put it inside the other piece. Pin sides together, leaving a gap on one side to turn.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sew it, turn it then find the gap you left and carefully stitch the hole.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can barely see the stitch on the side seam. This is not a detailed tutorial, but there are tons on pinterest and youtube.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Add buttons and button holes and voila! I used fusible webbing to make the crosses and ironed them to the dress to look like Ruby. I think it is a pretty good match to the character.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I bought a purple t-shirt for underneath. My model doesn't cooperate with me when I want to take a picture.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I put on a headband with rabbit ears and she's the cutest bunny ever.</div>

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L6sKtZx3f1c/UTK6OamKjTI/AAAAAAAAASs/bIsYmWciw7s/s1600/IMG_1352.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L6sKtZx3f1c/UTK6OamKjTI/AAAAAAAAASs/bIsYmWciw7s/s320/IMG_1352.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The dessert table featured a yellow cake with pink vanilla frosting and sprinkles, just like the one Ruby made for her party. I made butter cream icing frozen transfers for the Max and Ruby characters on the cake. For variety, I made chocolate cupcakes with fudge frosting and added "worms" and "dirt," just like Max's cake. Not pictured is the "rabbit food" veggie tray and fruit plate. Having this party near easter made it easy to find lot of rabbit themed stuff like carrot bubble necklaces for the goody bags. It was a fantastic party!</div>

I can appreciate keeping things focused on learning, but that means I have to come up with costumes when there are not a zillion cheap ones available at Wally World. Yes, I can sew pretty well but with the price of all the fabric and notions being so high, I will gladly pay for an affordable pre-made costume. This was not an option for Franklin the turtle. So, my search began... I mean why reinvent the wheel when I was sure pinterest could lead me to greatness. I found lots of ideas that weren't exactly great looking and then I found this blog <a href="http://thealmostperfectionist.blogspot.com/2012/10/homemade-turtle-costume.html">The Almost Perfectionist</a> that had a tutorial for a turtle shell that looked good and was easy. Not just easy, but a no sew tutorial. I basically followed her steps, with just a few modifications.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LGCEeapm7w0/US_t2CKSTGI/AAAAAAAAARQ/YX9ZrbSdzbs/s1600/IMG_1317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-LGCEeapm7w0/US_t2CKSTGI/AAAAAAAAARQ/YX9ZrbSdzbs/s320/IMG_1317.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I cut a cardboard oval and a larger oval out of green fleece. Then I cut brown fleece in a turtle shell pattern and hot glued it to the green. I wrapped the green around the cardboard oval, leaving a section unglued for stuffing. To be totally honest, I glued the whole oval then realized I forgot to leave a hole for stuffing... it was late. So, I pulled a section off the cardboard and stuffed the shell with recycled grocery bags... a lot of them to make it nice and full. I added a scalloped "trim" piece of brown fleece around the edge to look like the edge of a shell and glued that around the edge.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oJBi_aBADFM/US_t2Hm3CjI/AAAAAAAAARM/5LpserxRBzw/s1600/IMG_1312.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oJBi_aBADFM/US_t2Hm3CjI/AAAAAAAAARM/5LpserxRBzw/s320/IMG_1312.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
You can see the scalloped trim better in this one. Now Franklin has a very predominant plastron, or lower shell to which it is commonly referred. Yes, I looked that up to sound smart... hahaha. My husband called it the chest plate. So I took some yellow fleece and just drew the approximate shape freehand on the material. Cut 2 pieces of fabric and then I cut 4 pieces of green ribbon. I would recommend using something sturdier, but ribbon is what I had on hand. Put 2 ribbons on top and one on each side. Then sew right sides together, leaving a hole for stuffing. Don't forget the hole! Trim the edges and flip right side out, like you would a pillow. I used 1" foam to stuff the chest plate so it would the shape. Stitched up the hole and stitched a few contour lines in the front.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TuEgm5hvzKM/US_t0_nLdfI/AAAAAAAAARE/nbHylBbvulM/s1600/IMG_1308.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TuEgm5hvzKM/US_t0_nLdfI/AAAAAAAAARE/nbHylBbvulM/s320/IMG_1308.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can see the top ribbons better in this pic. The other two were about waist level on each side. To finish it up, I glued the ribbons to the cardboard part of the shell. Then I took the second oval circle and covered all the raw edges on the cardboard to finish it. The shell just goes over the head. Franklin also wears a red hat and neckerchief. So I did a paper cut out of the sun design and taped it to a red baseball hat. I had red bandanna to tie around his neck and it was complete. I didn't go so far as to buy a green sweatsuit, like I have seen on other blogs. Just a green shirt we had and jeans. He was very happy with his costume and all the kids at school thought he was a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle... sigh. </div>

I should share my background is in computer programming, not journalism. I hated English/Literature class in school and it is obvious I lack creativity in that way. Continue...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My son loves Sonic the Hedgehog. Last year for his birthday we all wore Sonic character shirts and I made Sonic cupcakes. I thought for sure this year he would pick something else but he wanted Sonic again. Well, Sonic character stuff is not widely available like say Spiderman stuff. This year his party was just family so I didn't want to spend a fortune on a sheet cake so I started searching pinterest. I saw several posts about making a butter cream icing transfer to put on a cake and I figure I would try it. Seemed easy enough, after all it was just tracing a picture and putting it on a cake. Well, not so easy but I'm still going to call this a pinterest success. I found a coloring page online and printed it out. Then I traced the Sonic head in black sharpie. I only did the head b/c it was a pretty simple design and I was just making an 8 inch round cake. Tape the paper down to a small (toaster oven size) baking sheet. Then I taped wax paper over it and I was ready to go.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CVmaKz1TOiM/URcSGJ2_I-I/AAAAAAAAAKc/r9DsEIl8GZo/s1600/IMG_0831.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CVmaKz1TOiM/URcSGJ2_I-I/AAAAAAAAAKc/r9DsEIl8GZo/s320/IMG_0831.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
I used Wilton black icing in the tube and a small round tip (#2 I think) to trace the outline. This part went very smoothly and I was getting confident this was going to be a masterpiece.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nRy7W0G-mfw/URcScGW9rtI/AAAAAAAAAKk/GT1zGVTjGaY/s1600/IMG_0834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-nRy7W0G-mfw/URcScGW9rtI/AAAAAAAAAKk/GT1zGVTjGaY/s320/IMG_0834.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Next was to fill in the spaces with colors. I read one blog that said to put the outline in the freezer for 20-30 minutes so the black won't bleed or get messed up. So, I mixed the blue icing while the outline was chillin'. My first mistake was not mixing all the colors before starting to fill in. I finished the blue and wasted time mixing a little bit of green and flesh color. The black outline was moving around as I tried to fill the other colors, so I froze it again and then finished the color fill.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I09tJAhFjvw/URcTaIGl4-I/AAAAAAAAAKs/KXJ6VroSHlE/s1600/IMG_0840.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-I09tJAhFjvw/URcTaIGl4-I/AAAAAAAAAKs/KXJ6VroSHlE/s320/IMG_0840.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
You may notice I messed up the ear and filled it with blue. I scraped most of the blue out and decided to fix that part when it was flipped on the cake. Now I stuck this bad boy in the freezer overnight to get it good and solid for the transfer to the cake. I also read that you can cover the entire shape with your cake color. This gives it more stability, but also makes it a little thicker and I opted out of that step. Maybe I should have done that though...</div>
<div>
Here is where the not so much fun begins. I have my round cake baked and frosted, just ready for a big Sonic head to adorn the top. I get up the next morning and attempt the oh so easy transfer. Well, when the blogs said work quickly, they mean FAST! I removed the wax paper from the pan and carefully flipped it over on the cake and began peeling away the wax paper. Well, part of it came off fine and then the icing began to stick like gum on the bottom of a shoe. Yes, it was becoming a mess. So, I popped the whole cake with the transfer and wax paper back in the freezer. I waited maybe 30 minutes and tried again... still sticking! I had to leave it in a few hours before trying to work on peeling the wax paper. It still took me 3 times in and out of the freezer (which amounted to all day.) I did eventually get all the transfer off the wax paper and on the cake with just a few breaks in the outline. I used a wet toothpick to do some repairs. I had also saved the left over icing from the night before and filled in some holes and gaps. Then to smooth it all out, I dipped a small knife in hot water and went over the whole thing. This is how it turned out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-En66fFSKccM/URcV4pMFhOI/AAAAAAAAAK8/LRXjD2kPpkg/s1600/IMG_0865.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-En66fFSKccM/URcV4pMFhOI/AAAAAAAAAK8/LRXjD2kPpkg/s320/IMG_0865.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My son LOVED this cake. Although it took me longer than expected to make it and it isn't exactly a "masterpiece," I saved a ton of money and I know what not to do next time. Yes, there will be a next time... Max & Ruby party in March! Wish me luck!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
UPDATE: Buttercream works MUCH better. It gets so hard and doesn't stick at all. It is actually pretty easy to make and you can make exactly as much as you need. Plus, I bet it is better because it doesn't have anything weird in the ingredients.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I don't have room for a mud "room." Honestly, it sounds like something else I would have to clean more than I want to anyway. My dilemma was finding an easy and organized area for the multiple jackets, book bags and lunchboxes. They have been left on the floor or piled on some hooks the previous owner screwed into the side of my kitchen island... lovely. Just the right height for a toddler to get in and right in the walkway between the island and frig. Solution: turn a useless nook into a storage spot for the "get out the door before we miss the bus" stuff. Here is the before:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xHTW3Bn7H1I/UQhmhB9B0wI/AAAAAAAAAKM/_O-WBARuewI/s1600/IMG_20130123_111206.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xHTW3Bn7H1I/UQhmhB9B0wI/AAAAAAAAAKM/_O-WBARuewI/s320/IMG_20130123_111206.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I saw a fabulous thing called bead board wallpaper on, where else, pinterest. I love the bead board look without the thickness of wood. Plus I didn't want to have to hammer anything. I used<a href="http://richestoragsbydori.blogspot.com/2012/02/bead-board-wallpaper.html"> </a><a href="http://richestoragsbydori.blogspot.com/2012/02/bead-board-wallpaper.html">*Riches to Rags* by Dori: Bead Board Wallpaper!!!!</a> as my inspiration and went with a high chair rail look with wide trim. There is a smaller trim on top to make a narrow shelf. Add some hooks and it is looking good!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IwbWek7lRk0/UQhewI96lcI/AAAAAAAAAJs/oLhBOmD5Z4I/s1600/IMG_0768.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-IwbWek7lRk0/UQhewI96lcI/AAAAAAAAAJs/oLhBOmD5Z4I/s320/IMG_0768.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<br />
I tossed around the idea of making a built in bench with storage, but again I would need to hammer. So, a few clicks on Amazon and I found an affordable walnut bench with beige storage cubes that fit the space perfectly. When I say perfectly, the space is 42 inches and the bench is wedged in the door trim on either side. It actually makes for a snug fit which means no little people can pull it out and push it over to the pantry so they can reach the snacks.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E9aIBrq0JEU/UQhewXvguWI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/-hNEBVX_cWA/s1600/IMG_0775.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-E9aIBrq0JEU/UQhewXvguWI/AAAAAAAAAJ0/-hNEBVX_cWA/s320/IMG_0775.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And with some of the stuff for school...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a7e2YWJzdOQ/UQhew5zVCOI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/JPunKVdO9Gw/s1600/IMG_0780.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-a7e2YWJzdOQ/UQhew5zVCOI/AAAAAAAAAJ4/JPunKVdO9Gw/s320/IMG_0780.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, I LOVE how this turned out! It wasn't hard, but took some time. I first prepped the area by removing all the caulk around the floor board and side trim. Then I lightly sanded the walls. Next, I applied the wallpaper. A friend gave me a roll of wallpaper that was not pre-pasted, which seemed like a pain but I honestly have NEVER wallpapered before so who knows if pre-pasted is easier. (But it sounds easier) Next, I bought the trim and painted it and the wallpaper once. Find the wall studs and screw in the trim and caulk the seams. Then paint a second coat on everything and install the hooks (over the screws so you can't see the heads). </div>

It serves as the guest bathroom and the kids' bathroom, although the kids are usually in the master bathroom with us. So, it just sat there, and sat there, and sat there with a bad pink/yellow paint job and builder blah components. I finally decided I needed to do something about it and I found some energy. I knew this would be a task taken on all by myself... and I did all of it all by myself. Yep, painting, plumbing, carpentry... I did it! This isn't a knock on the hubs, but he just is very practical about this stuff. If the light comes on and the sink works and toilet flushes then why bother? Definitely a function over form kinda guy. So, that being said... the big reveal. I didn't take an actual "before" picture... it is more of a "just got started pic and maybe I will take a picture so I can blog about it or put it on pinterest." Pinterest, by the way, is where I found my inspiration bathroom. I pretty much copied <a href="http://www.320sycamoreblog.com/2012/02/master-bathroom-details-pricing.html">this chick's</a> bathroom. Ok, before (took this with my phone after I pulled down the light)<br />

AHHHH! The after! Here's a run down on the changes: Painted (Behr Billowing Clouds), 3 new shelves, cabinet hardware, replaced towel bar with hooks. (Look in the reflection) I had to patch a giant hole from the towel bars and sand and patch and sand the crap out of it. <br />

New hand towel hook and framed the mirror. This framed mirror project is all over pinterest and it really is super easy... even by yourself.<br />
<br />
There are still a few odds and ends, like another framed something over the hand towel and something cutesy over the robe hooks... maybe a 1, 2, and 3. Ultimately, I still want to tile the floor and get rid of the glass shower door. That isn't something I can really do a piece at a time. But it will happen!<br />
<br />Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14636512397235392999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6644377954427955883.post-86577607750608413122012-06-21T06:44:00.000-07:002012-06-21T06:47:53.450-07:00Boys have a pee-nus.I have been having some interesting conversations with my oldest son, mostly revolving around his private parts. It surprised me how early baby boys become interested in their penis. Basically as soon as they have any control over their arms and hands, they are touching themselves. Seriously, it was difficult at times to even change a diaper. Now he is 5 and it is still the topic of many of our little exchanges.<br />
<br />
A few days ago I noticed him grabbing himself down there, on top of his shorts. So I ask him if everything is ok down there.<br />
"Yeah, my penis is just stuck to my balls."<br />
"Ok, well fix it then leave it alone."<br />
"How many balls are there?"<br />
"Two"<br />
"Two balls... I think I had four when I was a little baby."<br />
"I don't think you ever had four."<br />
"Ouch."<br />
"What now?"<br />
"It hurts when you mash them."<br />
"Well, don't do that then."<br />
"Why does it hurt when you mash them?"<br />
"I don't know. I don't have them, you will have to ask your dad."<br />
<br />
Then Josh chimes in:<br />
"Daddy has a pee-nus, Alex has pee-nus and I have pee-nus. We are boys. Mommy doesn't have pee-nus and Ashley doesn't have pee-nus. They are girls."<br />
"Yes, Josh, that is correct."<br />
<br />
At the pool Alex says "Mommy the water is cold."<br />
Me "It is not that cold."<br />
"Yes it is, get your penis in... it is cold."<br />
"I don't have a penis, you know that."<br />
"Well, put the part that doesn't have a penis in the water. It is cold."<br />
<br />

I actually have several things I wanted to write about and post but just haven't done it. I could give all the good excuses about having 3 kids and volunteering at VBS, but really I just don't like to write b/c I am so bad at it. I like to give a little more than a one line blurb on Facebook though when I do make something I like. Anywho, this morning I had nothing good to make for breakfast. No eggs means no pancakes or homemade anything, because you know how I love to make things from scratch. I did have a can of pillsbury biscuits and I remembered a FB post of a friend who made doughnuts out of them. I went to handy dandy pinterest and voila... lots of pins on how to do this. So easy... basically cut a hole in the biscuit. Don't have anything small and round? Use the cap off a water bottle or 2 liter. Heat some veggie oil in a pan to medium and fry these bad boys about a minute on each side. (Mine look a little dark and I could have turned them earlier, but they tasted just fine.) Let them cool, and dip them in melted butter and then a sugar/cinnamon mixture. Delicious and extra sugary doughnuts!<br />

I take these pics on my phone and saw a few other things I have done recently... one not so successful. But<br />
the kids don't know how it is supposed to look so all is good. Again, not having the desired lunch of corndogs, I saw some homemade ones on pinterest. They were from Martha Stewart and my eyes glazed over before getting through the ingredients list. Cornmeal, salt, sugar... blah, blah, blah. I can just use a box mix right? No need to pile up dry ingredients and make a well in which to crack the egg and knead by hand. Puh-leeze! Weeeeeellllll, the box mix was runny, so I used 2 mixes but half the eggs and milk. It still ran off the hotdog... but in my defense, even the Martha's direction said to cook about 5 minutes and spoon the cornbread mixture back on the hotdog. Whatever, this was becoming all too complicated. I bet you can't wait to see how they turned out, huh?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8TqWbiWvva0/T9Syi_R42II/AAAAAAAAAG4/8X8d5_bIQ3s/s1600/IMG_20120531_135344.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8TqWbiWvva0/T9Syi_R42II/AAAAAAAAAG4/8X8d5_bIQ3s/s320/IMG_20120531_135344.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
The cornbread kind of rose around the hotdog in a bun like fashion, so really they turned out ok. They actually tasted very good... not chewy at all like the frozen microwaveable kind. Josh (again with the bread obsession) ate off the cornbread and took a few bites of the hotdog. Alex, my champion eater, ate the whole thing and asked for a second one.<br />

What I should do on the rare night I have a little extra time is go to bed. That isn't what happens though... this is. Two of these items are ideas from pinterest. My friend has a picture folder on facebook called "Pinterest made me do it." That is exactly what happens. Your head gets filled with a thousand ideas and you just can't sleep until you try one.<br />

I wasn't really planning to make her a dress so I didn't have a pattern. I just made one and winged it. There are a few imperfections, but overall I think it is really cute. I totally copied the idea from a friend's photo on facebook. This dress is fully lined and could be reversible if I had used a nice fabric for the "inside." It was kind of a test project on doing a lining/reversible dress. I need to buy more patterns when they are on sale at Hobby Lobby for times like this.<br />

The cleaning may be suffering, but I did two little projects. First one is pinterest inspired. Burlap in all forms seems pretty popular. I have a friend who put burlap panels in her den windows about 10 years ago. Needless to say, she is way ahead of the trends... very stylish lady! I am kinda on the fence about how much I like this burlap wreath. I tied a red tulle (that's all I had on hand) bow to hang it, but it may need something else. A big "T" or some fall flowers maybe? I don't know... I am a copier, not a thinker upper. It did turn out just like the pic of the one <a href="http://todaysfabulousfinds.blogspot.com/2011/07/burlap-bubble-wreath-tutorial.html">here</a>. Super easy, but I have way too much burlap left over and it makes a mess when you are cutting it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qr6S6hhJoxw/ToUgB6TRe3I/AAAAAAAAAE0/y0r6w7ysF14/s1600/DSC03496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Qr6S6hhJoxw/ToUgB6TRe3I/AAAAAAAAAE0/y0r6w7ysF14/s320/DSC03496.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
My second project I am pretty proud of, if I do say so myself. I have never taken an art class, but I have been a couple time to those painting/drinking events. I think that made me less intimidated of a blank canvas. I bought 2 small canvases and some acrylic paint to make something for Ashley's room. I took my inspiration from her bedding set and painted these two side by side masterpieces. This is totally freehand, no stencil or tracing. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dlOqPQYGESk/ToUgpWrSCpI/AAAAAAAAAE4/oNi_UU5C9ng/s1600/DSC03510.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dlOqPQYGESk/ToUgpWrSCpI/AAAAAAAAAE4/oNi_UU5C9ng/s320/DSC03510.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Below is the quilt, which I pretty much copied with paint instead of fabric.</div>

Not that blogging it is much different to putting the pics on facebook, which I did do. The dawgs are sucking big time, but that doesn't mean baby girl can't look good cheering them on anyway. She already has a cheerleader outfit, but I wanted to make her a little dress and decided on a knot dress. I didn't use a pattern, just kind of fit it to her body. It fits but there is definitely room to grow. I am hoping that maybe next year I can add a trim to the bottom and she can wear it again, or just wear it as a shirt. Here she is:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FsXTwu8fM1E/Tn1TZ1AHGhI/AAAAAAAAAEs/ye1LR10PyjI/s1600/DSC03389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FsXTwu8fM1E/Tn1TZ1AHGhI/AAAAAAAAAEs/ye1LR10PyjI/s320/DSC03389.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It is getting kinda cool, so maybe a shirt underneath and some leggings or pants.<br /><br />Laurahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14636512397235392999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6644377954427955883.post-8851735307942120052011-09-23T20:14:00.000-07:002011-09-23T20:14:28.317-07:00A girl can never have enough shoes!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For my latest craft, I made Ashley some baby shoes. I have made several
pairs of shoes for the boys with a pattern similar the the Robeez
brand, but<a href="http://taoofcraft.typepad.com/taoofcraft/2010/07/here-is-how-i-made-themsupplies14-yard-of-heavy-home-dec-cotton-or-quilters-weight-cotton-fabric14-yard-lining-fabric-2.html"> this</a>
new pattern seemed a little more feminine. Plus, with pink flowers, you
can't get girlier than that! This was scrap material I had and wanted
to try this out to see how hard these shoes were. I wouldn't say they
are easy, but I like the way they turned out. (at least one of them,
one seems really wonky). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fo-s2SddWIc/Tn1IkRPdCvI/AAAAAAAAAEk/sXZHSTSnOFA/s1600/DSC03487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fo-s2SddWIc/Tn1IkRPdCvI/AAAAAAAAAEk/sXZHSTSnOFA/s320/DSC03487.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That is the cutest fat baby foot ever! (The good one, not the wonky one)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4jHXsloHD_c/Tn1I5XfyVpI/AAAAAAAAAEo/WyXhBaqcLPU/s1600/DSC03493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4jHXsloHD_c/Tn1I5XfyVpI/AAAAAAAAAEo/WyXhBaqcLPU/s320/DSC03493.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
She got tons of compliments on these shoes tonight at the mall, so I guess I will make a few more pairs.<br />
<br />
Lessons learned on this 1)use a solid fabric for the sole, or at least not a pattern that will look funny if it isn't on the shoe straight. 2) Attach the sole to the top starting at the toe and going to the back, not the back to the toe. 3) Don't forget to top stitch the layers after ironing... oops.<br />

Summer really kept me busy with the kids home and a new baby. Plus, I did a ton of organizing (post pregnancy nesting) which is not very interesting. I do frequent pinterest and have a TON of ideas for things to make. This is my first cooking post as I really do not enjoy cooking. I am a jar spaghetti sauce, taco dinner kit, box cake mix and frosting kinda mom. Honestly, breakfast is my best meal so I tried a breakfast wreath. Now it does include crescent rolls from a can, but the rest is "outer aisle" food. (BTW, I am kinda sick of coupon nay-sayers going on how they are "outer aisle" shoppers and coupons are only for junk.) Besides, the canned rolls are on an "outer aisle," too. I digress...<br />
My family really liked this and it reheated well the next morning. I need some practice wrapping the crescent rolls around, but I think I did ok for a novice. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UMad0fQGDSQ/Tm1nNRxUMkI/AAAAAAAAAEc/2I0oHKf78rE/s1600/DSC03344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UMad0fQGDSQ/Tm1nNRxUMkI/AAAAAAAAAEc/2I0oHKf78rE/s320/DSC03344.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Arrange the crescent rolls and layer bacon, cheese, scrambled eggs, and more cheese. Wrap the crescent roll points to the middle and sprinkle more cheese. Bake and voila!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kU1Iddm9HME/Tm1nx_BvddI/AAAAAAAAAEg/pMcKtYKMyzM/s1600/DSC03347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kU1Iddm9HME/Tm1nx_BvddI/AAAAAAAAAEg/pMcKtYKMyzM/s320/DSC03347.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
See what I mean about wrapping the crescent rolls better? <br />

Well, it is actually in a week, but we are celebrating today. She had been working the new Weight Watchers plan and fruit is one of the things you can eat for "free." (In moderation of course) Anyway, she didn't want regular cake and I am working on losing the rest of my baby weight, too. This is what I came up with... a cake made entirely from fruit. Well, as my blog title indicates, I copy ideas and don't usually come up with them on my own. I initially saw a watermelon shark on pinterest. (If you have never seen pinterest, stay away. You will find your self pinning ideas for hours... addicting and fabulous!) Then I went <a href="http://www.watermelon.org/">here </a>and there are lots of carving ideas and instructions. It is pretty easy. I used a cookie cutter on the pineapple to make flowers. Melon baller to do cantaloupe plus strawberries and grapes. Take some bamboo skewers and start arranging. Voila!<br />

It is kind of a madhouse and I didn't think Andrew would go for it, but he wanted to go get some free food. I love a good bargain, so I was pumped and the kids were very excited, too. I literally threw together a couple of costumes in a little over an hour. I pulled apart a sheep costume and re-used the felt to make 2 kid cow costumes with black felt spots. I decided baby Ashley could use a costume, so I took a onesie and added felt spots. To make the bottom cute, I added islet lace around the leg cuff. I saw the idea on pinterest and thought it actually turned out super cute. I may need to try this again. Last, I cut off the sleeves. Baby Ashley is kinda big, so the only white onesie that fit was long sleeved. I didn't have enough lace, so I just took some ribbon and tied bows on the shoulders. I was trying to make it look summery and not an unraveled mess. I have also seen a few pics of friends kids with ribbons tying up the sleeves on their t-shirts... so maybe that is the style these days. Seems like with little girls, you can add a ribbon just about anywhere and it works!<br />

I had some girl time with Ashley and made some accessories for her outfit while she napped. Mom got her this cute onesie and I decided to spruce it up super girlie. I made a stacked bow to match and a white tutu. The bow was a little heavy so I clipped it to a headband. I think she like the feel of the tutu. I cut a 6 inch spool of tulle into 12 inch long strips. I folded each one in half and sewed a pocket for some 1/2 inch elastic. I threaded the elastic through the tulle and cut it to size on Ashley's waist. Stitched the elastic together and fluffed. Tutus are super easy to make and can be knotted instead of sewn. Anyone can make these! Look how cute baby girl is!<br />

I have a variety of burp cloths and I like a cloth diaper for the size and absorbency. I saw a contoured burp cloth and thought what a great idea for good coverage. I used terrycloth on one side and UGA fabric on the other. I think I could really make it look like a dog bone! I also embroidered the name and added a single tag for tactile stimulation or just to attach a clip. Once I got on my UGA kick, I had to make baby girl a boutique hairbow. It is a little big and will probably need to be attached to a headband. I made a couple smaller bows, too. Check it out!<br />

I saw this on a friend's facebook page and thought it was clever. Alex loved it, too!<br />
